FOOD at Arab St!

Getting to Arab Street/Kampong Glam from Bugis Mrt.

Our first stop was one of the famous Nasi padang stall in that area, Hajjah Maimunah Restaurant where we decided to have lunch. Being known for famous food such as Nasi padang, murtabak and roti canai, Arab street attracts many tourist and locals as well. The restaurant had a large variety of dishes to choose from and was indeed crowded even on a weekday. After deciding on the few popular malay dishes, we sat down to dine. We got a feel of how Malay cuisine tasted. Lots of coconut milk and spicy with lots and lots of chilli! Jairus and Jonas thought the dishes were too spicy for them as they kept drinking water. Singapore Culture

Hi everyone! We're a group of students from Temasek Polytechnic doing a brief project on the arts, culture and heritage of Singapore. To start of, we would like to briefly describe what we understand by this theme.

Being known to be a cosmopolitan society where people live harmoniously and interaction among different races are commonly seen, Singapore is a modern city filled with rich culture and heritage.

The old streets of Chinatown can still be seen; the Muslim characteristics are still conspicuous in Arab Street; and Little India along Serangoon Road still has its distinct ambience

Food is also readily and widely available here in Singapore. There are lots of cuisines to offer. It is very common to savour other culture's food and some of the food can be very intriguing. One of the few popular ‘Makan’ place in Singapore includes Lau Par Sat and Newton Food Centre.

Besides that, Singapore is also emerging as a cultural centre for arts and culture, including theatre and music. Singapore hosts an annual Singapore Arts Festival when international and local artists gather in the country to perform in a wide variety of events including music, dance and theatre. And in 2003, the Esplanade - "Theatres on the Bay", a centre for performing arts, was opened to encourage this theme to be exposed to the locals.
